ORLANDO:
I’M PROUD TO BE THE SON OF SIR ROWLAND DE BOYS
AND I WOULDN’T TRADE THAT FOR A THING!
LET ALONE TO WIN THE FAVOR OF SOME IRON-HANDED KING!
ROSALIND:
MY FATHER LOVED SIR ROWLAND DE BOYS,
AND IF HE WAS LIKE HIS SON, I CAN SEE WHY.
THIS GUY HAD NOTHING LEFT TO LOSE,
SO HE WENT FOR WHAT HE WANTED WITHOUT SHAME.
HE WOULDN’T PLAY THEIR GAME.
[ROSALIND approaches ORLANDO.]
ORLANDO:
I JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW
YOU INSPIRED ME TONIGHT
AND I HAVEN’T MUCH TO GIVE
BUT I WANT YOU TO HAVE THIS
IT BELONGED TO MY DAD
YOU DESERVE SOMETHING FOR THE COURAGE THAT YOU HAD
[ROSALIND takes a chain off her neck and puts it around Orlando’s neck. He is speechless.]
ORLANDO:
...
CELIA:
Shall we go, coz?
ROSALIND:
Fare you well.
[ROSALIND starts to walk away from ORLANDO.]
ORLANDO:
ORLANDO, STUPID ORLANDO!
COULD YOU NOT EVEN SAY 'THANKS'?
OR MAKE A SOUND
YOUR BETTER PARTS ARE ALL THROWN DOWN!
ROSALIND:
IS HE STILL LOOKING MY WAY?
WHAT WAS HE TRYING TO SAY?
WAIT - DID HE MAKE A SOUND?
SHOULD I TURN AROUND?
[ROSALIND turns back.]
Did you call, sir?
ORLANDO:
Hm?
ROSALIND:
You wrestled well and conquered more than just your enemies.
ORLANDO:
….
CELIA:
Will you go, Rosalind?
TOUCHSTONE:
Rosalind!
[CELIA and TOUCHSTONE drag ROSALIND away, leaving ORLANDO alone.]
ORLANDO:
SHE...
WHAT’S HAPPENING TO ME?
YOU…
WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO DO?
WHAT ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO, SUPPOSED TO DO?
[Enter one of Duke Frederick’s ROYAL MINIONS.]
ROYAL MINION:
Good sir, I do in friendship counsel you to leave this place.
Such is now the Duke's condition
That he misconstrues all that you have done.
ORLANDO:
I thank you, friend.
[ROYAL MINION exits.]
ORLANDO:
Thus must I from the smoke into the smother,
from tyrant duke unto a tyrant brother.
BUT ROSALIND
ROSALIND!

Dave is the master of writing endings that instill an ethereal feeling of hope within the person who experiences it. The Field is a perfect cap to the end of Octet and by itself it fills me with the calm tranquility of acceptance in situations where I feel like everything is wrong, like I'm unworthy of everything I have and happiness itself. It always reminds me to not waste anymore of my weird and precious time, arguing the nonsense of the wheel. playton

This album: wow. It's perfect--not just because of the wonderfully grounded-in-the-quotidian but also numinous lyrics. Not just because of the gorgeous and musically meaningful arrangements or the superb artistry. Perfect also because it miraculously captures our individual and national grief, dread, and, maybe, hope-- or at least the sun on a hazelnut tree. A work of art from a humane artist who is an compassionate and careful observer of our time and place. Thank you! marymcd
